Symbion Power Plant

Location
Tanzania
Project Scope

General Electric’s Power & Water division helps advance power generation for communities worldwide. GE’s line of LM6000 aeroderivative turbines is one of the top selling gas turbines worldwide due to its fast ramp rates, 10-minute starts, cycling and load following capability, high efficiency and modular maintenance. To provide even more power for the LM6000 when used in hot climates, GE sought a trusted supplier to outfit the LM6000 gas turbine with turbine inlet air chilling (TIAC).

Stellar Energy’s TIAC systems are ideally compatible with the GE LM6000, allowing the turbines to meet or exceed the design capacities by providing ISO conditions for combustion turbine inlet regardless of ambient weather conditions. Stellar Energy first had to pass GE’s stringent First Piece Qualification (FPQ) process before receiving the first order from GE — a TIAC solution to augment two turbines at the new 400 MW Symbion plant in Tanzania. Two 1,800 TR modular TIAC systems were built in Stellar Energy’s world-class fabrication facility in Jacksonville, Florida, and were delivered to GE on time and on budget within the eight-month project schedule. GE followed with a second-phase order to augment six more turbines at the Symbion plant.

As an approved FPQ supplier, Stellar Energy has provided TIAC solutions through GE for additional GE LM6000 projects: the Valle de Mexico power plant in Mexico, the Glenarm Repowering Project in Pasadena and Petrobas Regap in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
